Wind tunnel testing facility - A success story of Volkswagen

Eleven Alfa Laval heat exchangers are in use, contributing to the achievement of that goal.

The Volkswagen wind tunnel testing facility in Wolfsburg, Germany, is the largest wind tunnel in Europe. The facility is equipped with 11 Alfa Laval heat exchangers, of which 4 are cooling units, 3 are heating units, 2 are for free cooling (cooling without using cooling equipment), and 2 are used for two cooling devices. These heat exchangers, installed in 2008, have made it possible to change temperatures quickly. The key to the facility's cooling system is free cooling, which utilizes outside air for cooling without using cooling equipment. Thanks to Alfa Laval's heat exchangers, free cooling is effective when there is a sufficient temperature difference between the outside air and the refrigerant being cooled. The additional heat exchangers installed for free cooling have significantly reduced operating costs, saving both electricity and clothing. [Cleansing Example] Cooling Unit

Cleanly remove rust stains in 24 hours! Introducing a case where the flow rate improved by 5.1%.

We would like to introduce a case where we performed cleaning of the internal circuits of a cooling unit at the request of an automotive parts manufacturer. Rust and dirt inside the circuits were obstructing the flow. While the amount of dirt was not excessive, some clumps of rust were observed. It can be inferred that there may have been accumulated dirt in certain areas of the circuit. We dispatched our workers to the site and successfully removed the contaminants through 24 hours of work. Four hours after the cleaning began, the flow rate had increased. 【Case Overview】 ■ Issues - Rust and dirt inside the circuits obstructing the flow - Inferred accumulation of dirt in certain areas of the circuit ■ Results - Achieved a flow of 8,340L in 24 hours - Improved flow rate from 5.9L/min to 6.2L/min, a 5.1% improvement *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Effect of the Raiden Unit

Double cooling method of "contact cooling" + "evaporative cooling"! Designed for use with layering.

We would like to introduce the effects of the "Raiden Unit" handled by FPC Co., Ltd. We conducted a "cooling test using the evaporative heat of the layered FAN cover" by using a towel that has been heated with hot water and thoroughly wrung out to simulate the underwear or skin surface when sweating. A cooling unit was placed in the center of the towel, and a temperature sensor was attached to the heat-absorbing plate. As a result of the test, the surface temperature of the back, where the heat-absorbing plate directly contacts, showed a cooling effect of approximately -10°C within 5 minutes. By blowing exhaust air onto the sweaty underwear, the evaporative heat is drawn away, allowing the entire back to cool down. 【Cooling Test Overview】 <Content> ■ Simulated the underwear or skin surface when sweating with a towel heated with hot water and thoroughly wrung out ■ Placed a cooling unit in the center of the towel and attached a temperature sensor to the heat-absorbing plate <Result/Effect> ■ The surface temperature of the back, where the heat-absorbing plate directly contacts, cools to approximately -10°C within 5 minutes ■ The entire back cools down due to the evaporative heat from the airflow *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
